100% score internet.co.uk now also for Microsoft users
In the IT world, the independent check tool Internet.nl from the Internet Standards Platform is well known. This tool thoroughly and competently tests to what extent a website or e-mail meets modern Internet standards. Until recently, a score of 100% was not possible for everyone. Now, fortunately, it is, and we tell you how.
Why a 100% internet score on internet.co.uk?
A 100% score on internet.nl means that your website, e-mail facility and Internet connection fully comply with internet.nl's standard for modern Internet standards. This standard is based on internet standards from the 'comply or explain' list of Forum Standaardisatie, security advice from NCSC, and relevant RFCs from IETF - to name a few. Still not convinced? Then we have a few more reasons why you should go for a 100% score:
- Reliability and security: Most standards tested contribute to higher online service security. While a perfect score does not guarantee that a service is completely secure, it does show that you have implemented important security measures.
- Future-proofing: The test checks for modern standards such as IPv6, which is essential for the future growth of the Internet.
- Protection against phishing: For e-mail services, authenticity attributes such as DMARC, DKIM and SPF are checked, which help prevent e-mail phishing.
- Compliance: For some organizations, especially in the public sector, meeting these standards may be a requirement.
Oh, and websites with a 100% score are also included in Internet.co.uk's Hall of Fame. If you want to make an impression, this Hall of Fame is well worth it because of its positive reputation for digital security and reliability.
100% scoring now also possible for Microsoft 365 users
Yet that 100% score was not possible for everyone, specifically those users who mailed through Microsoft 365. That's because Microsoft did not support DNSSEC and DANE, essential technologies for secure email handling. IPv6 connectivity was already possible, but only on demand through a service request. Although Microsoft promised improvements since 2021, they failed to materialize. A bummer, especially for the tech-savvy among us.
Fortunately, the functionality is now finally available in preview and will be fully rolled out this October. This means Microsoft 365 users will soon have the opportunity to achieve a 100% score on their email traffic.
How do you achieve a 100% score on internet.co.uk?
To achieve a 100% score, several settings must be adjusted. For example, the MX record be modified from the domain mail.protection.outlook.com to the new domain mx.microsoft. In addition, you need to get started with PowerShell. Don't worry, for new environments created from October this year, the domain mx.microsoft will be used by default. So you don't need to modify anything for this. For existing tenants, however, nothing will change by default, so you will have to do this yourself.
